Just Jag

 In other words ...

I was born a dramatic soul. For as long as I can remember, I was tap dancing and singing on the hearth of my grandmother’s fireplace. I was the kid who wrote plays and forced my cousins to perform them with me. I performed in public for the first time at the age of 11, singing in my town talent show. From that point on, I was hooked.

My passion for theater has continued to grow over the years. I have been involved in all aspects of the craft, both on stage and behind the scenes. I love the beginning stages of a piece, the research and exploration of the history and process of design. Moving forward in a production, I am drawn to the energy and camaraderie that takes place among the crew and actors. The experience is one of collective creativity among human beings more than a direct focus on the artists. The final outcome is a shared connection between the stage and the audience, affecting everyone.

Channeling my creativity, artistic experience and passion for theater into education was a natural choice for me. I was fortunate to have teachers who inspired me to excel in my art, overcome challenges and use the theater as a stage for my own growth and expression. In turn, their influences have inspired me to do the same for others. I want to share what I have learned, what I have experienced, what I am passionate about and educate children on how to use theater as a creative outlet.

I want to teach my students about not just the dramatic arts, but about the world in general. I want to ignite a fire in their thoughts and imaginations. I want to provide a safe environment where they can explore the modern world in which they live and build skills for action and expression.

Create a space where students have a voice and the tools for expression. Teach them about thought and movement. Welcome creativity and dramatic ownership. Cultivate ethics, compassion and understanding. These are the essential components to inspire young minds to make the world a better place through performing arts. This is my goal.
